The City of Hartford is one of only three cities in the country chosen to participate in the Obama Administration’s Strong Cities, Strong Communities Challenge. SC2 Hartford is an EDA grant-funded competition that invites interdisciplinary teams to produce innovative economic development plans. The goal? To establish Hartford as the city where first time, serial and second-stage entrepreneurs start companies and grow them with ease. The success of SC2 Hartford rests on community engagement and the ability to attract qualified people with distinct skill sets to come together, form teams and compete for prize money totaling $900,000.
TSM Design was hired by the City of Hartford’s Development Services team to develop effective marketing and communication strategies and creative deliverables—including website design and content, stationery, PowerPoint presentations, posters, banners and brochures—to attract 50 qualified teams to participate. At the close registration there were 59 teams. Ultimately, this 15-month project will yield six detailed, actionable economic development plans for the City.
TSM Design’s work includes the brand, a robust marketing and communication plan, media and public relations (picked up by The Hartford Business Journal and The Courant among others), a series of community information events—both on and offline—and a variety of communication and promotional activities.
According to Stephen Cole, Sr. Project Manager of Economic Development in the City of Hartford’s Development Services Department, “We chose TSM Design because they are uniquely suited to communicate complex economic principles and public policy in meaningful ways to small business owners and members of the community. The level of understanding and excitement that TSM Design brings to our project demonstrates the firm’s experience working with diverse community partners in multicultural communities.”
